Image hosting

With the explosion in digital cameras, taking photos has never been easier. Once you have the photos then the big job is how do you go about sharing them?

You could just put them in an email and send them to your family and friends who will probably get sick of getting huge emails from you. The best thing to do is to find somewhere to put your pictures online and then simply send a link in email.

If you are like me then you don’t want to pay for an image host and will be on the lookout for a free image host.

Now lets face it, nothing is for “free” is it? so when you use free image hosting you are always on the lookout as to why it is free. Well, I think I have worked it out the image hosting part is free but when it comes to viewing, the website has some sort of ads on it. See, there is a reason. As long as the ads are not too annoying then this is the best way of sharing your photos and other images.

Edit digital photos - Resize

With every new digital camera having more and more megapixels actually managing and sharing your photos becomes more and more of a chore from day to day. While it is important to have a large image with a lot of megapixels if you want to make a print, it is hardly necessary to send a 3 or 4meg image to your friends in an email or even to post it on your Myspace or Facebook site.

You could install the software that came with your camera and spend the next 6 months learning how to use it. You could also get something like Photoshop. As the most common task you want to do is to resize the picture for posting on your blog or sending in an email neither of these options really make a lot of sense. So, why not use an online image resizer for this task. You can resize pictures for free using their simple web based tools without the need to install or learn any software.

If you don’t know how to resize pictures then you are in luck - this is the easiest way I know of to do the job.

While you are there, don’t forget to create an avatar out of your favourite photo as well for use on your Blog and Forums.

Free Image Hosting

Another freebie - Do you need to share a picture or photo with someone online? Well, we all do from time to time. When I need to I use Free Image Hosting provided by 4freeimagehost. They have a couple of options for sharing your images - and the first one is that you just need to go to their page and upload a picture, and you get a couple of codes to use to share the picture.

This is pretty good and the picture stays online for about a month. Their 2nd option is much better - sign up for a free account and you can upload bigger pictures and you get complete control over your pictures. You get more codes to use to share the pictures, you can recover lost codes and even delete pictures yourself. Best of all, when signing up they mention you might get an email from time to time - true - The last email I got was about 2 months ago, so it looks to me that they won’t send mails very often!

I find them very convenient when sharing some of my photos on web forums - it is simple to upload your picture, get the thumbnail code for the forum and post it. Free Image hosting is a great convenient way to share your pictures and photos.

Resize Images

When it comes to resizing your images from your digital camera there are quite a few things you can do.  One of the easiest is to use a website like shrinkpictures to do it for you.

It is really easy to use and there is no software to install which makes it so easy.  Just follow their 5 steps and click Resize. A few seconds later you will be given the new smaller picture ready for you to download or send to your email account.

Of course, you could buy software such as photoshop and spend $500 to do the same thing!
